LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon Announces $5,000 College Scholarships for Austin-Area
The LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon Will Award Two $5,000 Scholarships to High School Senior Athletes Who Excel in Academics
AUSTIN, Texas – Oct. 25, 2011 - The LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon is now accepting applications for two $5,000 college scholarships to Austin-area student athletes. The scholarships will be awarded in May 2012 to one male and one female cross country or track senior-level student athlete who excels in academics and athletics.
Successful scholarship candidates will demonstrate quality academic performance, excellent leadership skills, and a sincere commitment to community service. Scholarship winners are encouraged to volunteer during their freshman year of college with an organization associated with “26 Miles for 26 Charities,” a philanthropy program of the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon. The program provides Austin-area non-profit organizations the opportunity to advance their mission through community awareness and fundraising.
“The LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon recognizes the significant role academics, athletics, and community service play in building character and leadership,” said Race Director John Conley. “Through hard work and dedication, Austin-area student athletes continue to demonstrate why they are the future leaders of our community. As engaged members of the Austin community, we want to support and invest in these young men and women.”
Applications for the LIVESTRONG Austin Marathon and Half Marathon scholarships must include a copy of the applicant’s high school transcript as well as a coach’s letter of recommendation. All applications must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.
