ZACH to Join Theatres Around the World for Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays

On Monday, November 7, ZACH will join theatres across the country and around the world for simultaneous performances of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays, a collection of hilarious, emotional and revolutionary new short plays that are sure to provide an incredible night of theatre.

This one-night-only performance will be held at ZACH Theatre’s Kleberg Stage and will begin at 7:30 pm. All tickets for this event are $20. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 512-476-0541, ext. 1 or online at http://www.zachtheatre.org.

Standing on Ceremony was conceived by Brian Shnipper and written by two Pulitzer Prize, four Obie, one Emmy and three Tony winners – Jordan Harrison, Jeffrey Hatcher, Moisés Kaufman, Joe Keenan, Neil LaBute, Wendy MacLeod, José Rivera, Paul Rudnick and Doug Wright. Responding to one of the defining issues of our day – the ongoing battle for marriage equality throughout the United States – some of America’s most illustrious and award-winning playwrights have created a heartfelt, funny and altogether illuminating evening that celebrates the courage to be in a relationship – any relationship. Be there as these writers offer their unique takes on the moments before, during and after "I do."

Participating theatres are presenting these plays to raise awareness and funds in support of marriage equality, an issue that transcends borders. To date, more than 25 theatres and universities from California to Australia are confirmed to participate.

Audience members will have access to a live streaming introduction before the play, as well as a post-performance Q&A, with the Minetta Lane Theatre in NYC. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in the Q&A, regardless of their locale, by submitting questions via Twitter in real time.

Proceeds from the performance at ZACH Theatre will benefit GetEQUAL TX, a grassroots organization whose mission is to empower the LGBTQ community and its allies. For more information, please visit http://www.zachtheatre.org/show/standing-ceremony-gay-marriage-plays.
